Blas is a Senior Lawyer in SAMANIEGO Law, and specialist in conflict resolution in the fields of litigation, arbitration and mediation.
Specialization and career to date
His professional experience encompasses civil and commercial litigation, including preparation of cassation appeals before the Supreme Court, internal and international arbitration acting as counsel, arbitrator, and secretary to the tribunal, as well as mediation in corporate disputes. Blas has a great experience in commercial law and intellectual property, also in the ground of contractual advice.
He also has a valuable practice in privacy and data protection matters. He advises clients in various sectors, from technology consulting to the pharmaceutical industry, including energy or telecommunications
Prior to joining Samaniego Law, from 2008 to 2017 he was associate and then senior associate in the Commercial & IT and Dispute Resolution Groups of Bird & Bird (International) LLP, based in Madrid. During this period he participated in several multijurisdictional projects and a number of disputes both national and cross-border. He was a member of the team that obtained the EJC ruling (joined cases C-468/10 and C-469/10) declaring the direct effect of Article 7.f) of Directive 95/46/EC in Spanish data protection regulations. He also has been a secondee in a leading multinational IT provider.
Admissions and education
Blas holds a Law and International Relations degree from the Pontificia Comillas University (ICADE) and an Official Master’s degree in Intellectual Property from the same University. He is licensed to practice law in Spain, admitted to the Madrid Bar, seats as arbitrator of the Madrid Bar’s Court of Arbitration and is accredited mediator by the Spanish Ministry of Justice.

Blas is an Associate of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce’s Court of Arbitration, member of the Spanish Arbitration Club (CEA -40) and Young ICCA, and founding member of Rafael del Pino Arbitrators’ Club.
Since 2013 Blas is Assistant Lecturer in the IE Law School’s Program of Legal for Digital Business Transformation. He was a professor of International Public Law at the Francisco de Vitoria University (Madrid). Blas attends regularly to the sessions held by the FIDE Foundation where he also has been speaker and moderator on various occasions.
Blas is fluent in Spanish and English and understands French.
