Blas is a Senior Lawyer in SAMANIEGO Law, focusing his professional practice in technologies, commercial contracting and dispute resolution (litigation, arbitration and mediation). From November 2008 to March 2017, he was an associate lawyer in the IT & Dispute Resolution department of the Bird & Bird (International) LLP’s Spanish office.
Specialization and career to date
Blas has significant knowledge and practical experience in IT, IP and commercial law matters & lawsuits, with a focus on software and energy dispute resolution, both in litigation and ADR. He also has a valuable involvement in Privacy and Data Protection matters. His dispute resolution experience includes international arbitration and cassation appeals before the Supreme Court. He usually deals with contract drafting, revision, negotiation and localization. His extensive practice includes advice and disputes on e-commerce, social networks or sharing economy. He is also familiarized with distribution agreements, consumption issues and insolvency assessment.
Prior to joining Samaniego Law, from 2008 to 2017 he was associate and then senior associate in the Commercial & IT and Dispute Resolution Groups of Bird & Bird (International) LLP, based in Madrid. Along such a period he participated in several multijurisdictional projects and a number or disputes both national and cross-border. He was a member of the team that obtained the EJC ruling (joined cases C-468/10 and C-469/10) declaring the direct effect of Article 7.f) of Directive 95/46/EC in Spanish data protection regulations. He also has been a secondee in a leading multinational IT provider (confidential).
Admissions and education
Blas holds a Law and International Relations degree from the Pontificia Comillas University (ICADE) where he was a Scholar at the Employment and Social Security Department, and an Official Master’s degree in Intellectual Property from the same University. He is licensed to practice Law in Spain, admitted to the Madrid Bar.
Language skills and other relevant information
Blas is Assistant Lecturer in the IE Business School’s Advanced Program of Technological Contracting from its 2013 edition. Blas was professor of International Public Law at the University of Francisco de Vitoria (Madrid). He regularly attends sessions held by the FIDE Foundation where he also has been a speaker. Blas is also member of the Spanish Arbitration Club (‘CEA’).
He is fluent in Spanish and English, and understands French.
